In a bedroom that feels calm but not boring, the devil is in the detail. You want to look to decorative elements that have some tactility and movement.

Looking to transform your bedroom into a soothing oasis you can escape to? Contrary to popular belief it doesn’t have to be a pattern-free, all-white affair. Let me show you how you can use subtle colours and prints to turn your space into a calming retreat.

Soft Stripes

There’s no denying that a white backdrop is a nice place to start when it comes to making your bedroom feel calm. But you can’t stop there. Avoid making this space a sterile one by embracing a subtle stripe pattern. And the easiest place to do it is in your bedding.

The Vienna Quilt Cover Set ticks all the boxes. You have the neutral tone as your backdrop, but then you get the minimal stripe detail running across the top of the bed to deliver interest.

Keeping the pattern pencil-thin is the secret to rocking print in your space while still delivering visual calm. It really is the best of both worlds!

And notice the soothing blue tone here? Not only does it elevate the room, but it allows you to use blue accessories in other pockets of the space if you want to include more colour.

Embossed Stitch

In a bedroom that feels calm but not boring, the devil is in the detail. You want to look to decorative elements that have some tactility and movement. Doing this allows you to delight two of your most important senses: sight and touch.

The Phoebe Quilt Cover Set features a charming embossed stitch pattern that’s easy on the eye and with added appeal. The colour palette is calm, which we love, but it’s the print that does a lot of the work here.

The raised detail on top of this set provides depth and dimension - and the sort of finish you want to run your hands over. It’s this textural element that makes it look and feel cosy as well as inviting.

The warm red tones in this bedding allow you to add like-minded colours around the room if you wish, or keep the look subdued with accessories in more neutral tones.

Charming Check

Calm doesn’t have to mean colour-free, and this charming check bedding set proves it. Sure, it’s the most colorful and pattern-heavy of the lot, but you’ll notice that the room still feels wonderfully tranquil. And that’s because the contrast in colour is low, not high.

The white backdrop in the Kai Quilt Cover Set is overlaid with light blue stripes, creating a gorgeous gingham pattern. By keeping the blue tone in a light sky, instead of a deep navy, there’s less visual energy.

This is the secret to creating a bedroom that feels striking and serene, at the same time! The gingham pattern also brings with it a wonderful sense of whimsy and nostalgia; a nod to the past while feeling very on-trend right now.

Pair this bedding set with bolder blue accessories to keep things livelier, or introduce white accents and some soft grey moments to keep the scene more restful.

That’s the beauty of the tones and patterns in all of the bedding sets here; they’re so versatile that you really can put your own stamp on them, all while making your bedroom the destination for unwind and relaxation!

I love a neutral room as much as the next decorator, but all-white spaces can often turn cold and clinical.
