Think of it as the last step you take when building your bed, before popping sheets and a quilt on. Therefore, it should be the closest element to your body; so, it should be comfortable!
Often forgotten and neglected, Underlays are a great way to protect and add warmth to your bed, ensuring you’re super comfortable and have an overall better night’s sleep.
Since we spend almost a third of our lives in bed, we believe every element of your bed can contribute to a healthy night’s sleep in their own ways. Discover why underlays should become a bedroom staple on the quest to a better night's sleep!
What is an Underlay?
If you’ve never heard of the term Underlay before, they ultimately add an extra layer of softness and warmth to your bed, while providing support and protection while you sleep. They are generally made from a soft, wool material, as wool is one of the best ways to regulate body temperature, due to its natural insulating properties.
Underlays can relieve pressure often caused by lumps and bumps in your mattress over time, by providing a soft, even surface. This means it can also help to aid issues you may have with your spine, including pain or stiffness, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.
The smooth surface allows you to rest in a straight position, soothing your back from all the strains you may have experienced during the day, for a relaxing night’s sleep.
As previously mentioned, wool is great for managing your body temperature. Our Standard Wool Underlay is made from 100% wool pile and is the secret to a cosy, warm bed during the cooler months.
No need for electric blankets here – you’ll wake up each morning feeling completely rested and ready for the day, without the stress of second-guessing whether you turned your blanket off!
Every step you take to build your bed correctly will work to protect and enhance the longevity of your mattress, and underlays are no exception!
Your underlay works as an additional shield for your mattress, serving as a barrier against spills, stains, dust-mites and allergens.
This will significantly reduce the build up of dirt and debris on your mattress itself.
Naturally breathable and hypoallergenic, Our Premium Reversible Underlay offers the benefits of 100% Australian soft wool fleece in winter, while during summer, it can be reversed to the 100% cotton japara quilted side to keep you nice and cool.
The wool will still be keeping you nice and cosy, while the japara material will cool you down instantly.
To care for your underlays and maintain them so they last, you can practice a few steps.
Hot tip: wash your underlay on a windy day so it dries quicker, and you can pop it back on your bed within the day!
