If you don’t particularly want your pet on the couch but still want them close to you, consider placing their bed on the couch! Our Pet Beds look glam enough to have on your couch and are comfy enough for your pet to snuggle in all night.

National Pet Day on April 11th is to show appreciation for all the pets in the world and encourages people to love their pets and if possible, adopt those in need of a home. It advocated against animal cruelty and violence while highlighting the importance of providing a home for orphaned pets.

Pets are an important part of our lives, providing us with love and companionship. They become a part of the family and deserve to feel comfortable in our homes. However, creating a pet-friendly living room can be challenging.

From chewed-up furniture to spilled drinks, pets can cause havoc in our homes if we don’t take the necessary precautions. Read on for some tips on how to create a pet-friendly living room.

The right furniture

When choosing the right furniture for your living room, it’s important to consider the needs of your pets. Leather or microfibre furniture is easy to clean and things like fur and dirt won’t stick to it. A worn brown leather couch may even look more at home with a few lived-in marks and scratches.

Avoid materials such as velvet or chenille as they are more likely to stain and catch pet hair.

Also be wary of choosing furniture that is sturdy and won’t easily tip over if your pet jumps on it.

Protecting your furniture

Even with the right furniture, pets can still damage it. To prevent scratches and chew marks, cover your furniture with covers or even throws. This will not only protect your furniture but also make it easy to clean, and looks like you’re accessorizing!

Or, if you don’t particularly want your pet on the couch but still want them close to you, consider placing their bed on the couch! Our Pet Beds look glam enough to have on your couch and are comfy enough for your pet to snuggle in all night.

The right flooring

Pets can easily scratch or stain hardwood floors, so it’s important to choose a durable and pet-friendly option. Ceramic tiles or vinyl flooring are great options as they are easy to clean and scratch-resistant.

Or if you prefer the look of hardwood floors, consider putting down a cosy rug for warmth and protection – our Begonia Rug looks great and is extremely practical.

Keep items out of reach

Pets are naturally curious and they may try and investigate anything within their reach. Keep dangerous items such as cleaning products, cords or plants  out of their reach.

Additionally, secure any loose cords or wires to prevent your pets from chewing them!

Create a designated pet area

Pets need their own space, so consider creating an area for them in your living room. This could include a bed, where you pet can relax and feel comfy - our Pet Beds come in a few different sizes and are perfect for cuddling in.

Or our Pet Teepee provides an element of luxury and doesn’t take up a lot of space, while your pet will feel warm and safe.

Lastly of course, your pet will need a Pet Bowl, Treat Container, Cool Mat and a place to store all of their toys!
